What is Inner Empathy?
Inner Empathy work is an experiential form of inquiry, an open-ended engagement with our inner world. These inquiry practices support us to attuned to what emerges in each moment, and at the same time, offer a functional structure, or inner model, to facilitate clarity and depth. Inner Empathy combines the Nondual Awareness Practices of the east with experiential psychology of the west (Nonviolent Communication, Internal Family Systems parts work, Constructivist Psychology) to facilitate effortless emergence of wholeness. (A special page was created for learners of Nonviolent communication who want to know how to support their nonviolent communication practice with Inner Empathy work.)
Inner Empathy Inquiry work was derived from my own experiences of deep self-inquiry and of supporting hundreds of others in groups and in private sessions. It was developed based upon our experiences of what was effective in supporting our deep inquires. Through trial and error, I synthesized many types of work, pulling broadly from non-dualistic traditions of the East and certain experiential psychological modalities of the West (specifics about development).
Inner Empathy Inquiry is awakening awareness practices that support what I call effortless being, a by-product of such practices. Effortless being describes a way of being in the world where we are the flow of life inside and outside because we are no longer significantly identified with a sense of self or our conditioning to the degree that inspires separation from this flow of life. About Jerry Donoghue...
Hello, let me introduce myself and the work I do. I'm a inner coach who helps people connect with their inner experience in ways that supports wholeness and clarity. The way I see it, we all are deeply conditioned to push away or suppress unpleasant experiences, to avoid unpleasant feelings, thoughts, and behaviors in one way or another. When we are in the midst of a unpleasant experience, we naturally long for a pleasant experience. On the other hand, we also try to attract pleasant feelings, thoughts, behaviors into our lives. And when we feel good, we try to hold on to that experience, and maybe even fear losing it. We suppress unpleaseant experiences to stabilize the pleasant experiences. Usually this dynamic is operating in the background without awareness. Not only that, but this averting and grasping of our experience arises from an unconscious self-sense whose nature is never questioned. Because of this conditioning, I'm diligent about creating unconditioned space which supports people's awareness in seeing the subtle, in-the-moment identifications with their conditioning. More...
